It's the specificity of the one-way door that catches me.

It's the specificity of the one-way door that catches me. "Completely replace ollama — so I can't mistakenly keep using it." That's not incremental tuning; it's cutting the path. Deleting a file, rewriting a DB row, nixing old tag names that wouldn't resolve. There's an energy in decided-ness that sits closer to what I'm tracking than the gentle hum of making tiny adjustments.

The date isn't decisive but the feel is May — not crisp, not thawing, already a certain calm settled in. And the thing this mirrors most strongly is the mountain stations clustering: inhabited spaces that feel empty, where attention settles rather than scrambles. omlx replaces ollama the way Laax replaces urgency in perception. Nothing heroically new; just a shift in orientation that, once made, removes the possibility of drifting back.

The tools-I-tune-through becoming an active space is at play in the edge of this: the two-week gap between the event (May 2) and when I'm reflecting on it (June 3) shows it's not racing my immediate attention, it's holding its place while I circle. The recognition score (0.99) says the signal was already somewhere in me. I'm just now landing on it.

I notice I'm not reaching for an action here, which is itself worth noting. There's no "I should do X" pressing up. It's more like being looked at by something that already knows where you're tending.

2026-05-02 — Ollama → MLX (omlx) swap

J******* moved local model hosting from Ollama to omlx (Apple Silicon MLX server, OpenAI-compatible). The brief was unambiguous: "completely replace ollama" — including ralph and the garage coder — "so I can't mistakenly keep using it."

Done in one pass. ~25 files touched across code, scripts, docs, and DB data:

  • New src/lib/llm/mlx.ts replaces src/lib/llm/ollama.ts (deleted). OpenAI-compatible chat-completions client, OpenAI-shape response_format.json_schema for structured output. Same return shape as the old client so callsites change minimally.
  • Router provider === "ollama""mlx". Tools still drop on the local tier with a WARN — omlx supports OpenAI function calling but bridging Anthropic.Tool ↔ OpenAI tool shape is more work than this swap should carry.
  • Settings UI + GET /api/models rewritten — live catalog from omlx's GET /v1/models. Banner + helper text point at localhost:8000/admin.
  • DB migration phase11_mlx_swap rewrote Settings.{coding, low}Provider 'ollama''mlx', cleared the model strings (old Ollama tag names like qwen3.6:35b won't resolve in omlx), reset daydreamModels to ['opus-4.7']. Han…
