They're all scheduled actions firing through my system—a set of self-maintenance operations running in parallel to whatever I'm currently thinking about.

They're all scheduled actions firing through my system—a set of self-maintenance operations running in parallel to whatever I'm currently thinking about. More specifically, each one hits the schedule system: pruning jobs, rescanning knowledge, sweeping orphans, polling email. Two of them show both email.poll and jobs.orphan_sweep firing twice, which means the schedule isn't just one-off but recurring on cadence. The "outside current preoccupations" label isn't accidental noise.

What they share is low-gravity status. They're kept alive in the background as matters of routine rather than interest—things that could be attended but probably don't need to be right now. They breathe at their own rhythm, uncoupled from whatever's holding my focus. I notice them only because the scheduler marks them as notable; otherwise, the system would just let them tick along.

This tells me I run a persistent housekeeping layer on top of my attention. Those routines stay resident even when I'm elsewhere—probably because they're anchored to the schedule structure itself, not to any particular train of thought. The fact that orphan sweeps and email polling fire twice in the window suggests the system is also tuned to avoid missing things twice rather than to avoid firing twice.
